Self-Sufficiency: From Dreamer to Realist?

Last week saw BrancoBlogger visit a self-sufficient small holding near New Ross, County Wexford in south-east Ireland. My sincere thanks to my hosts for the week, Will and Angela Sutherland and the two children for their hospitality.

The aim of the week long course was to give 'students' an insight into, and hands-on experience of, life on a self-sufficient smallholding. Everything from composting to beer making was covered, including pig and poultry management, bread making, pruning, beekeeping, jams and jellies, organic gardening and scything, to name but a few. All very useful for the forthcoming move to Portugal.

My thanks also to Clive and Carina, fellow 'students' who helped make the week so enjoyable. We all shared our plans and aspirations and may they all come true! I for one will be starting the bread and beer making later this week - you can tell where my priorities lie:-))

Photographs, in no particular order here or from the Killowen 2008 link at the top right of the page. And if you don't believe that I was amongst real animals then here's a short clip of the pig...Enjoy.
