R
ecent weeks have proved to be a somewhat 'turbulent' period for Jini. Getting information about what exactly is happening to her has been difficult. However, here is the lastest, at least as I understand it.

After a considerable wait and much mis-information Jini attended the hospital at Coimbra last Wednesday 21st June. The consultant Oncologist has begun an assessment of her - and the conclusion appears to be that she will need 25-30 days of radiotherapy. Today, Friday 23rd June, she is attending a further session at Coimbra for a 'PET' scan, presumably to determine the precise location of any offending cancerous cells. The results of this scan may be available next week and a schedule of treatment will then be made available.

Naturally, the above has come as considerable shock to us all and not least to Jini. After having the surgery she was told that things were fine and that all was well. It now appears that this may not be the case - however, the radiotherapy is likely to be mainly 'preventative' and is being given as a precaution avoid further possible 'developments'. Forgive me for being so vague, it is difficult to give a clear analysis of what is happening. Maybe that is the nature of the illness?

From a practical viewpoint, it does mean that Jini will have to spend some 5 to 6 weeks at the Coimbra hospital. She has been offered accommodation during the week and is expected to return here to Castelo Branco each weekend. Of course, the travel, the home/cats will prove a further challenge.

May we thank you all for your verbal and written support at this difficult time. I remain confident that Jini will progress well through the following weeks. Undoubtedly, it will mark the beginning of a new phase in Jini's life.

Thanks Pat for your good wishes. A tough journey indeed - both treatment and travelling. Regretably, we are here only until this coming Thursday 29th June and then we return to the UK. Not sure that I want to be here next Saturday when England play Portugal in the world cup. It won't be good for me here when England win:-))

Best Wishes to all in Singapore
Geoff & Rohini xxxx
