A Walk around Heptonstall

'Heptonstall has no cinemas, no clubs and little in the way of shops and yet can be said to be one of West Yorkshire's best kept secrets'. The moorland around the town made sheep farming ideal and a domestic cloth industry possible. Heptonstall became a centre for weavers. more

Before starting the walk we visited the Octagonal Methodist Chapel, said to be the oldest in the world in continual use. Our 'Reverend' Ken took to the pulpit to describe the walk ahead.

The walk around Heptonstall included some dramatic moorland walking. It was a good turnout on Saturday, the motley crew being Ken, Rick, Laura, Dave and Derek.
