It seems appropriate to announce the very sad news of Jini's death here on this blog. You'll recall it was created in March 2006 (see 'ARCHIVES' in right hand column below) to share news of her diagnosis and treatment of cancer with those friends/family in Portugal, Singapore and further.  Teachers of English tend to spread themselves to all corners of the world;-))

The information I have is that Jini was taken to Singapore General hospital on Monday 6th January 2014.  She had been struggling to breath whilst at her family home in Singapore.  Despite the best efforts of hospital staff Jini died in the early hours of Thursday morning 9th January.  She was with friends and family. Her funeral will took place today at 6pm Singapore time, that's 10am Portugal/UK time Friday 10th January.  Rohini arrived in Singapore and attended the funeral.

Being Jini, she wouldn't have wanted anyone to know how ill she was, wouldn't have wanted to 'trouble anyone' and wouldn't have wanted anyone to be upset.  Well, we are, and deeply.  I know, even now, that's she's looking over my shoulder so I need to be careful what I write;-))

It's very difficult to think that we'll never see her again but I share the kind sentiments expressed by Louisa one of Jini's friends: 'Jini was one of the kindest and most lovely persons that I've ever met and it was a privilege to share my life with hers'.

In her Christmas card to us she said: 'Eat well & Be Happy'.
